Farm insurance for every kind of property
Mixed farming & grazing
Sheep, cattle and the paddocks, yards and sheds that go with them.
Cropping & hay
Standing crops, harvested grain and hay in the shed or the paddock.
Horticulture & vineyards
Orchards, vines and the packing sheds and machinery behind them.
Hobby & lifestyle farms
Smaller blocks with a few head, a tractor and a home that still needs proper farm cover.
What a farm insurance package can cover
A farm package brings several covers under one policy. What’s included depends on the insurer and the options you choose, and all cover is subject to the insurer’s terms and underwriting.
Farm Buildings & Contents
Homesteads, sheds, shearing sheds and their contents.
Farm Machinery
Tractors, headers, balers and other machinery, including cover while working.
Livestock
Sheep, cattle and other stock, for events such as fire, flood and accidental death.
Crops
Standing crops can be covered for fire and other insured events.
Hay & Harvested Produce
Hay in the shed or stack, and harvested grain, often a target for fire.
Fencing
Boundary and internal fencing, which can add up fast after a fire or flood.
Stock in Transit
Livestock and produce while they're being carted to sale or processing.
Farm Liability
Your liability if someone is injured or property is damaged because of your farming activities.
Farm Motor
Utes, farm trucks and registered vehicles.
Farm & Crop Packages
Combined packages that bring the main farm covers together under one policy.
Cover descriptions are general only. Read the policy wording, Product Disclosure Statement and Target Market Determination.
Review your farm insurance before the busy season
Farm values change through the year. A shed full of hay after cutting, new machinery before harvest, or a bigger mob after calving or lambing can all leave you underinsured if your policy hasn’t kept up. A quick review with us before your busy season helps make sure your sums insured still match what’s on the farm.
After a fire, flood or storm
When the worst happens on a farm, there’s a lot to deal with at once. Call your Johansen office as soon as it’s safe. We’ll lodge the claim with the insurer, help with the paperwork and keep pushing until it’s settled, so you can focus on the farm.
Farm insurance questions
What does a farm insurance package usually include?
Most packages can combine buildings, contents, machinery, livestock, farm liability and motor, with options for crops, hay and fencing. We’ll help you choose what fits your property.
Is my hay covered for fire?
Hay can be covered for fire, but the terms vary, especially for stacks in the paddock. Tell us where and how you store hay so we can check.
Are boundary fences covered?
Fencing can be included, often with its own sum insured. After a fire or flood, fencing is one of the biggest costs, so it’s worth getting right.
Can you cover my livestock in transit?
Yes, we arrange stock in transit cover for livestock heading to sale or processing, subject to the insurer’s terms.
Does farm insurance cover my house as well?
A farm package can include the homestead and its contents, so the house and the farm are on one policy.
How often should I review my farm insurance?
At least once a year, and before your busy season. Values shift with new machinery, hay on hand and stock numbers.
Do you also insure farm machinery used off the farm?
Yes. If your machinery does contract work or travels on public roads, let us know so the cover matches.
